Strange weta-thing?

Strange weta-thing?
Houston/Cinco Ranch, Harris County, Texas, USA
Size: around 3in.
Found by a friends house on the side of the road. Six legs total. Two front appendages look like claws perhaps for digging or attaching to trees. It has very small wings that look almost premature in growth. When approached did not flee by flight, but crawled slowly on the pavement still non-threatened.
