Peigler's/Spiny Oakworm Moth--First Instar Larvae - Anisota senatoria

Peigler's/Spiny Oakworm Moth--First Instar Larvae - Anisota senatoria
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
July 27, 2005
Size: 3 mm
First instar caterpillars hatched from the same batch of eggs in the linked image below. They are feeding on Water Oak (Quercus nigra) leaves, supposedly one of their hostplants. I've given them fresh leaves periodically, but they did not seem to be thriving the last week or so (circa 8/3/05), and they later died.
