Found on Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia) leaf.

This Flesh Fly seems to be a male.

To me this looks more like a sarcophagid (subfamily Sarcophaginae), including the male terminalia. A possible candidate would be Ravinia (not an ID!).

You're right, there is no (obvious) subsculellum.

I can understand why the Sarcophagids were part of the Tachnids for a long time.
Their separating differences are quite minimal.
And the the taxonomy of the Sarcophagidae is still turbulent.

Do you perhaps know what the separating characteristics of genus Ravinia are ?
I have a few more photos, some from slightly different angles, that might reveal a bit more.

I'll move these photos to Sarcophaginae for now.
