Black & yellow insect found in wood pile - Neoclytus caprea

Black & yellow insect found in wood pile - Neoclytus caprea
Schuykill County, Pennsylvania, USA
April 18, 2009
Size: varies
I found these in the pile of cut wood dropped off. They vary in size from very small to at least an inch. The one shown was about 1/2 inch long. The larger ones are mating right now - late April. They are very quick, jump, fly & seem to be non aggressive when chased but they kept coming right back. I have not seen them before around our home until i went to stack the wood.
