Polyzoniid Millipede - Petaserpes

Size: 12.0 mm
I went leaf litter-sifting with Adam Brunke and another friend, and while collecting in a cedar forest (without many expectations for what the habitat was worth), we were very excited when we stumbled upon a Hemiquedius staph and some of these now rarely-encountered millipedes.

Yes, these are representative
Yes, these are representatives of the family Polyzoniidae, order Polyzoniida. The only genus in Ontario is Petaserpes Cope, and two species inhabit this Canadian Province, P. cryptocephala (McNeill) and P. mutabile (Causey) P. cryptocephala is the more common Canadian representative, so it is more likely this species.
