nuttalli
Hello,
This is actually a male Hemileuca nuttalli. A nice find!

~Zak

Thanks, Zak -
I think you are right, also some of its reported food plants (Symphoricarpos, Ribes cereum) occur on Mt. Pinos summit, with Purshia tridentata nearby. So far I haven't been able to find any other records for this moth species this far south.

Western Sheepmoth, perhaps
Looks like, perhaps, the reported-to-be highly variable Western Sheepmoth, Hemileuca eglanterina, guide page here. Could be another in the same genus, but the hindwing pattern looks like that shown in Miller and Hammond, Macromoths of Northwest Forests and Woodlands, #232, p. 107. (1)

Hemileuca
Thanks, Patrick, this looks like a good possibility.
