Triceratops Beetle - Phileurus truncatus

Triceratops Beetle - Phileurus truncatus
Hwy 55 and Sedwick, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
July 24, 2005
Size: 36 mm
Found at a light near woodlands, captured and posed. Length measured by photographing adjacent to a scale. A poorly-known species, not illustrated in most guides.

I've found perhaps three live indivdiuals and a couple of dead ones at the same site in the past two years. Definitely not an abundant species.
