Large Grasshopper - Dissosteira carolina

Large Grasshopper - Dissosteira carolina
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
July 15, 2005
Can anyone ID this large grasshopper which came to my MV moth light?

Carolina grasshopper.
This is a fine portrait of a Carolina "locust," Dissosteira carolina. The single notch in the pronotal crest (top of thorax) is one key to identifying them, as are the buff-colored hind tibia (shins) and the lack of banding or spotting on the tegmena (front pair of wings). Nice image!
