Crane Fly - Ctenophora dorsalis - male

Crane Fly - Ctenophora dorsalis - Male
Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
July 3, 2004

Male Woodboring tipulid.
This is a male of Ctenophora dorsalis. Those pectinate (comb-like) antennae are very distinctive for males of the genus. The dark wings are specific to this species I believe. Larvae mine decayed hardwood logs and stumps.

Ctenophora dorsalis
Thanks Eric, for getting this down to species, and the great explanation.
