Buckmoth sting - 1 week later - Hemileuca maia

Buckmoth sting - 1 week later - Hemileuca maia
New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, USA
April 6, 2009
Size: ~1.5"
If you ever decide to sting yourself with a caterpillar, I recommend that you press it gently into your skin. In this case, and the one time that I stepped right on a buckmoth caterpillar, the amount of pressure definitely influences the amount of venom delivered and the severity of the reaction!

Geez, Mark...
I hadn't seen the first two photos you posted, so I had to go back and read the whole story. Fascinating commentary and photo documentation, but hard to not feel bad for you. Sounds like this was a very painful experiment. Just curious if your dog is still suffering any ill effects from his sting?

Ross is fine
He is still pretty apprehensive about going into the yard though. He's no dummy!
