Black Carpenter Ant (Camponotus pennsylvanicus) - workers
This pic perfectly illustrates the size polymorphism among Carpenter Ant workers.
Major and minor workers are not usually considered as different castes, or even subcastes, among this genus, because virtually all intermediates occur between the extremes. Nonetheless, size distribution often tends to be bimodal, i.e. medium-sized workers are comparatively less plentiful than big and small ones.
