Help to ID would be appreciated.

Do these flies always have their bottoms tucked under?

I don't know specifically about muscids. There are some syrphids, however, that do the tucking more often than not. Paragus and, to a lesser extent, nausigaster come to mind.

Generally, I think the posture is more common with long-bodied flies, such as yours.
