Size: 6-7 mm
Possibly flies? There were many swarms of them around the yard. This mating pair was found on the side of the house

Note the difference in wing color

6-7 mm each

Possible species
The common species of Bibio with dark body, red femur, and wing venation like this one is B. xanthopus.
