Searching for a nest site around a hale bale. One of the rare opportunities I've had to observe this species!
After observing a lot of other bumble bee behavior while searching for nests, I have to say this one was very unusual. She was sluggish, and flew around the hale bale a few times and then landed on it. She then walked around slowely, poking her head into the hay a few times, and then commenced to loaf about. She allowed me to get within inches of her for photographs. Do you think there was something wrong with her?
