fly - Xylophagidae - Xylophagus lugens - female

fly - Xylophagidae - Xylophagus lugens - Female
Baiting Hollow, Suffolk County, New York, USA
April 30, 2009
Size: 10 mm
This fly was very co-operative and didn't seem to mind posing.
He is full of mites, I wonder if he was not feeling well.

Xylophagus lugens, the only X
Xylophagus lugens, the only Xylophagus that has black legs around here

Xylophagidae
Probably Xylophagus

Not Anisopodidae
Probably Xylophagidae, Xylophagus. May be Xylomyia, but I think it is the former.

Gnat
Compare Anisopodidae(1).
