Orb Weaver - Larinioides patagiatus

Orb Weaver - Larinioides patagiatus
Thompson Falls, Sanders County, Montana, USA
July 24, 2005
Size: about 12 mm
Looks similar to . This was the only one of the hundreds I saw with this pattern. I found one other dark orb weaver. The rest were light colored...tan or orangish. The web seen in the photo is not this spider's.

Moved
Moved from Bridge Orbweaver. Based on range maps and pattern drawing found in The Insects and Arachnids of Canada Part 23 this is patagiatus rather than sclopetarius. Also this spider was found in a field near coniferous trees, and not near water.

Moved
Moved from Furrow spiders.

Reminds us of
Larinioides species, in the guide here

Ok, based on everything we can read
this one with the white forward pointing V and the abdominal pattern outlined in white is L. sclopetarius. We'll move it there.

Thanks,
and I completely agree.
