Bar-sided Darner - Gynacantha mexicana

Bar-sided Darner - Gynacantha mexicana
Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
August 8, 2002
This species was first confirmed in the US in 2000 with a photo taken by Bob Behrstock. I found a dead specimen in 2001 and submitted it to John Abbott at the University of Texas. Then I took this photo in 2002. All three of these, and most of the several sightings and photographs since, were in the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge near Alamo, Texas. Most sightings have apparently taken place in October, but this one was in August.
