Housecleaning wasp - Sphex lucae - Female

Size: ~25 mm+
Ned Harris found this busy female Sphex lucae digging her burrow. She was very speedy, such that I got many great shots of her a** disappearing into the burrow. Periodically she would exit and scatter her excavations randomly before resuming digging and piling the little mounds of soil outside the entrance.
