Esther Moth - Hypagyrtis esther

Esther Moth - Hypagyrtis esther
Stafford, Stafford County, Virginia, USA
August 5, 2005
Size: Aprox. 4cm
I am struggling with this ID. I was sure it was Macaria, then I moved to Euchlaena, then Hypagyrtis. I thought it may be a melanic form but no white spot for Euchlaena. Wingsapn is too large for Blurry Chocolate. Moth worn? Appreciate any help and comments. The additonal insect in the picture looks like a midge.

This is a real tough group to get to species, but I would go with Hypagyrtis esther #6655. They don't always have a white spot either.

That's the one....
...that I had finally settled on but the white spots sent me back to looking at the others. :) Thank you so much.
