a leafcutter
not sure about the species

Thanks, John.

resembles brevis
-

Interesting; it certainly does
However, Info page on that species puts it out of range, but it also puts all our IDed posts out of range. Knowing how you are on checking range, I believe the Info page is wrong (Florida to Carolina) and needs revision.

What do you think about Megachile mendica for this one? I've had suspicions...

Not mendica
that has a straight T6 with conspicuous black hairs laterally.

I think this is subspecies brevis onobrychidis found in the western USA.

The North Carolina to Florida... range pertains to subspecies pseudobrevis of the SE USA.

For species range consult Discover Life maps

For subspecies ranges consult Hurd (1979) available online.

The "subspecies" will likely prove to be valid species.

Thanks, John, for the info.
