Garden Weevil? - Chlorochroa

Garden Weevil? - Chlorochroa
suburban Portland-metro, Washington County, Oregon, USA
August 7, 2005
These insects appeared in my patio garden a couple of weeks ago. I first noticed them on the sweet pea vines, then on the strawberry plants, finally on the clematis. It's a prolific li'l bugger. They seem to have avoided other plants in garden including tomato, lavender, parsley, and many others. There is no visible damage to the infested plants. Insects are active day and evening. What is this? Is it a beneficial that will munch on the aphids?

True Bug
This is some species of true bug.

Chlorochroa sp.
These are the nymphs of a stink bug in the genus Chlorochroa. I collected them often when I lived in Portland. Could be the "conchuela," C. ligata, or another species of Chlorochroa.
