Black fly - female

Black fly - Female
Wild Oak Recreation Trail, west of Staunton, VA, Virginia, USA
May 8, 2009
While backpacking in the Virginia mountains, some friends and I had quite a few of these blackflies after us. This picture was taken on top of a mountain ridge. I didn't catch this individual, but caught three others from the general area. They all keyed out to the genus Prosimulium using the book "The Blacklies (Simuliidae) of North America".

R vein
Is the Rs vein forked? I can't tell from this angle. In this family an oblique view of the wings seems to be especially misleading.

Unfortunately
None of my pictures seem to show the wing clearly enough, and I didn't catch this individual. So I'm leaving the picture under the family for now.
