Queen and nest - Vespula maculifrons - female

Queen and nest - Vespula maculifrons - Female
Perry County, Pennsylvania, USA
May 13, 2009
A day later, and the envelope is almost completely repaired.

It should be noted that this queen has gotten a great start. While there are many queens still searching for a place to nest, this one has already founded a nest and has about 30 cells with small larvae. I cant wait to see how big the nest gets

This relocation has been great so far. I will be able to continue getting rare glimpses into the life of a wild Vespula nest without disturbing them or injuring the nest [the nests are unbelievably fragile]
