Carabus auratus

Carabus auratus
Montpelier, Washington County, Vermont, USA
May 12, 2009
This fellow was found at North Branch Nature Center. It was in the grass on a field, and apparently others of it's kind had been found in this area in the past. It was so cool looking that I just grabbed it and hoped not to get bit. As you can see, I didn't.

Carabus auratus
or one of the other Europeans. Actually, I'm rather sure it's auratus

C. auratus has been introduced into the US
and has been found in Quebec - we even have a guide page for it already, so go ahead and add your nice photos to that one!

Thanks!
Wow, that was record speed! Thanks so much for the ID.
