Ant-Mimicking Salticid -
Peckhamia
Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, USA
May 10, 2009
Size: ~4-5mm (?)
Interesting little ant-mimic found on the back porch.
There are quite a few out there now, some a bit more robust than others.
Could he/she be Peckhamia?

Fine series
I suspect that you are correct about the genus. Compare with

Peckhamia
Yeah, I just got a response from Wayne Maddison and he confirmed that this one would be Peckhamia - although he isn't sure on which species.
I guess I'll move the pictures over to Peckhamia for now.

Nope...
No, he didn't say.
I have seen several ant-mimics (I assume the same species as this specimen) since finding this little one, and have seen a few with more pronounced front legs and swollen, longer palps.
So this one likely either a sub-adult male/female or a female.

Simply wonderful photos!
Wow! Really nice images of this spider. The accompanying video was also quite enjoyable and demonstrated the ant-like leg waving behavior very well. (The background music was a big hit with me too!) Aside from this being a very cool spider, I am also quite interested as I had submitted
my own images
a while ago of what I believe must be a closely related specimen. It's hard to tell from my shots (which are not of much use), but it was definitely a jumping spider. Fortunately, I recently got some much better photos which I hope to be posting soon!
Oh, BTW, I edited all your images for this post to include the state. (You must have accidentally skipped that field when you submitted them.)

Thanks!
Glad you liked the video. (And my admittedly primitive guitar playing skills!)
Your spider looks pretty similar - hopefully we can get an ID on mine or yours... go ahead and post your new photos, there can never be too many ant-mimics for the guide!
And thanks for adding Oklahoma, I must have forgotten - it's getting late.
