Carabid - Elaphropus anceps

Carabid - Elaphropus anceps
Plum Island, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA
May 13, 2009
Size: 2.2mm

Moved
Moved from Elaphropus incurvus to E. anceps based on my re-evaluation of the E. anceps-incurvus complex in my collection and the images posted on BugGuide. I favor E. anceps for this re-examined voucher specimen based on sufficient sinuation of pronotal sides and relatively longer antennomeres 8 - 10 which cannot be fully appreciated from this image. Also the forebody is not as dark (head > pronotum) as seen in most E. incurvus.

Elaphropus incurvus
based on my microscopic examination of this specimen. Elaphropus anceps and E. incurvus are often difficult to separate externally even under scope. Thanks Tom.
