Wolf Spider (Hogna?) - Tigrosa georgicola - female

Wolf Spider (Hogna?) - Tigrosa georgicola - Female
Spartanburg County, South Carolina, USA
May 14, 2009
Size: About 2cm body length
Piedmont region of SC, USA. Beech-oak forest on the bank of a creek. There were about a dozen spiders around this one - possibly males and this is the female? I'd love a more specific ID if anyone wants to help.

Hogna sp.?
Beautiful picture. It not only shows the spider in its natural environment, but is well proportioned. The spider stands out! You get a real sense of being there with the spider, at its own level and on its own turf. That is a female, BTW.

Going by the body size and the stripe down the center of the carapace and between the eyes, looks like it might be Hogna sp.

Thanks so much for the ID help and encouragement! I used a 24mm lens which shows a lot of background detail, but limits the magnification and working distance. It's also my only lens right now. :-) I've updated the posting to say female and possibly Hogna. I also posted what I think might be the male:

Thanks again!
