Lace bug - Corythucha coryli

Lace bug - Corythucha coryli
Miller Dunes, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Bioblitz, Gary, Lake County, Indiana, USA
May 16, 2009
Size: ~3mm
We only saw a single individual, not a colony, and it was on the underside of a choke cherry leaf. There was a big storm the preceding day so it's possible that it was knocked down from higher in the black oak canopy, we just don't know.

Hi
I like your photo of the Lace Bug. Its size is just in the range where my camera/lens/flash combination starts having problems. Would you share what equipment you are using?

We're using a Nikon D70
with the Nikkor macro (Nikon calls it a "micro" for some reason) 105mm lens. We use either the on camera flash or the Nikon SB800 on the camera's hot shoe. But in this case, we shot using ambient sunlight with shutter priority 1/250 and ISO 200. We haven't really figured out the best arrangement yet for low light macro photography but are still thinking about other possibilities.

Thank you very much!
