Bolton, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
August 8, 2005

Moved
Moved from galls. This is hickory, not chestnut. ID based on illustration and "smooth, onion-shaped galls" description in this book.

insect eggs?
I am pretty sure those are leaf beetle eggs. I don't know which leaf beetle feeds commonly on Chestnut, but that is the common appearance for leaf beetle eggs and they are usually laid in double rows. Angela

Galls
They look more like galls to me.
However I could be wrong.

Galls
That sounds good, and is consistent with the other pictures in the guide. These were on a chestnut tree leaf. Thanks Charles.
