Skeletonizer Larvae on Willow

Skeletonizer Larvae on Willow
Granite Creek, Prescott, Yavapai County, Arizona, USA
May 18, 2009
Some sort of leaf beetle skeletonizer? I submit this only to report that when I touched them (I don't know what posessed me to touch them) beads of fluid came out the "tubercles" all along their bodies and then was sucked back after a moment. It smelled of marzipan or varnish (thought I was a hearding ant). It was a pretty impressive sight (under 16x handlens). Looks most like this one .

Chrysomelids
Trirhabda species feed on Asteraceae. You might check out Chrysomela, which has species that feed on willow and that have defensive tubercles along their bodies (other genera may well have these, but I've read about them specifically in Chrysomela pupae).
