Nest - Vespula maculifrons

Nest - Vespula maculifrons
Perry County, Pennsylvania, USA
May 20, 2009
The queen has been hard at work. The nest now has large late instar larvae, and I have seen the queen returning with prey at least twice a day to feed them. She has also been expanding the nest a lot, it is now bigger than a golf ball.
