Plunker

Plunker
Riley Wilderness Park, Coto de Caza, Orange County, California, USA
May 20, 2009
A plunker is an insect that plunks down in front of you, usually but not always on the trail. It is contrasted with a plopper, which pretty much does the same thing, but without the slightest trace of elegance.

This one looks like a tiny bee fly to the nekked eye, then turns tachinid-like in the computer.

Thanks a second time.
Now that I've managed to photograph both ends of the fly, I'll try for a top view next time.
