Brachinus sp - Brachinus

Brachinus sp - Brachinus
Middleburg, Clay County, Florida, USA
February 28, 2009
Size: 13.6mm
Going Through my records, I had this guy listed as Brachinus janthinipennis in one
location and Lebia grandis in another. How I arrived at either one is beyond be. Brachinus
janthinipennis is too small (5-9mm), and I see too many things to rule out Lebia.
Reviewing the keys, I returned to Brachinus, but now can't find keys to take it lower.
Any help would be appreciated.

Brachinus
Despite your really nice high quality photos here, most Brachinus specimens need to be examined under scope with key for reliable species determination. If you have extras for me to keep I can do this for you. Best key which requires some experience is: Erwin, T.L. (1970) A reclassification of bombardier beetles and a taxonomic revision of the North and Middle American species (Carabidae: Brachinida). Quaestiones entomologicae 6, 4-215. Good luck.
