Tremex columba - female

Tremex columba - Female
Tulsa Zoo, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, USA
May 27, 2009
This wasp is one I had never seen before today, and that's how I define a "really good day." I was helping move some logs around in the snow leopard exhibit and this girl ended up on the shorts of the large mammal keeper. Luckily he only brushed her away and someone pointed her out to me. I scooped her up into my glove until I could get a better ID on her. I'm glad I hung onto her for photographs because she was a beauty.
