I found what i think to be a Swallowtail Caterpillar......please help me

I found what i think to be a Swallowtail Caterpillar....i've read online that they're in the southeastern states.....well, i Live in Central new york....why did i find it here?? I'm just curious....i have a digital Camera i will take a Picture and submit it to ID request....but i hope someone will tell me where or how i can get a Paw-Paw plant (this is what i'm told they eat) in New York.

Lots of Swallowtails
A number of species, for example, fly up in Canada and Alaska. Not all species are restricted to the southeast. Each has its own hostplant. For some it might be pawpaw but not for all. The hostplant for your species is likely the plant you found it on unless it was on a hike between lunch spots! Check out some of the images here in the guide. Click on the INFO tab at any time to get more information.

No Hostplant
Well, it wasn't on a paw-paw....it was walking on the pavement on Grifiss Air Force Base.Toward the highway...so right now it's cocooning in an aquarium at my house, as i was worried that it might not find another plant...but get run over.

Don't eat everything that you see on the ground.....seriously
