Anomala orientalis beetles in 'carefree delight' rose - Anomala orientalis

Anomala orientalis beetles in 'carefree delight' rose - Anomala orientalis
Roswell, Fulton County, Georgia, USA

Size: black: ~.5"; brown: <.5"

Anomala -- must be color variations of the same species
most species are hard to tell from images, but an expert may tell

Anomala orientalis
Thanks, but I believe these are two different species (though, given your background and experience, you may very well be right). Someone else suggested that the brown one is Anomala orientalis, and that appears correct.

1 vs 2 species
my experience with chafers is very limited, they scare me to death [i mean, in terms of taxonomy], so you might as well be right

Anomala orientalis
I had thought they were different, but in looking at other BugGuide images, it appears the species is in fact extremely variable, so I'm going to go with your suggestion that they are two color varieties of the same species. Of course, I am open to correction on this.
