Anomala orientalis
Thanks, but I believe these are two different species (though, given your background and experience, you may very well be right). Someone else suggested that the brown one is Anomala orientalis, and that appears correct.

Anomala orientalis
I had thought they were different, but in looking at other BugGuide images, it appears the species is in fact extremely variable, so I'm going to go with your suggestion that they are two color varieties of the same species. Of course, I am open to correction on this.
