Tiger beetle - Cicindela sexguttata

Tiger beetle - Cicindela sexguttata
rural, Dallas County, Iowa, USA
May 30, 2009
Size: about 1 cm
May be Cicindela sexguttata. However, none of several individuals seen seemed to have the six white spots as the name implies. Some individuals seemed to have a blue/purple color--I will send images to another individual in the next group (not linked to this photo). Also, labrum of adult does not seem to have 3 "teeth" as described in Leonard and Bell's Northeastern Tiger Beetles.

Moved from Cicindela.

sexguttata, I believe
Variable populations out your way--some purple and some without maculations, just as you note.
