Moth ID? - Noctua pronuba
Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, USA
May 29, 2009
Size: 1"
I sent in a photo of the pupa, which I found in my garden, on May 6 and was encouraged to keep it to see what emerged. This is the result, 3 weeks later. I hope the species can be IDed based on the underwing and the distinct markings on the upper wings. I turned it loose after the photoshoot, feeling very paternal. Note wing damage, which was present on emergence.
