This might be Alluaudomyia bella but I'm not convinced.

That would be great to get this to species if it indeed turns out to be Alluaudomyia bella. So far there's only one biting midge identified to species in the guide.

I wonder if this is the male and the one I photographed last year was the female of the same species.
