Maple Callus Borer Moth? - Synanthedon

Maple Callus Borer Moth? - Synanthedon
Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, USA
June 2, 2009
Is this a Maple Callus Borer Moth? The colors seem off.

Moved
Moved from Sesioidea.

moth ID
The world expert (T. Eichlin) believes it may be Synanthedon pyri, however, we can never be sure without having the specimen in hand. S. pyri is the apple bark borer. I would just put in the genus Synanthedon. That is the best we could do with a single photo.

Thanks very much.
Thanks very much.

ID
No, it's not a maple callus borer. It is one of two other species. I will get back in a week.-Bill.
