Many thanks for the ID.

The ones that look like this have been placed in Taeniapterinae but I know nothing of the family.

Coincidence
It's a thing-I-just-took-a-picture-of-an-hour-ago-and-was-about-to-upload.

I thought it was an ant at first. Mine was tapping its legs on a leaf.

Thanks
for responding and I hope you upload yours too. Does it look like the same species? There are several similar images here in BugGuide and the span from Massachusetts to Florida to Louisiana, but I don't know if these are one species.

Many thanks again!
There are several images of similar flies her in Bugguide but not all have the hooked abdomen. Is this a sexual dimorphism?
