Wood Wasp, Horntail ??? - Janus integer - male - female

Wood Wasp, Horntail ??? - Janus integer - Male Female
London, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada
June 3, 2009
Size: approx 1.5 to 2 cm
Early in the day I photographed each of these individuals separately in our suburban backyard and thought they were 2 species. Then I caught them both interacting. The female is ovipositing into the stem of the bush. Note that the leaf has a fungus on it so it is likely a stressed plant. The two interacted constantly over a five minute period including investigating each other with antennas and the male flashing the spots on his wings at her. The female was ovipositing at three spots on the stem during that period. I am surprised at the degree of sexual dimorphism. I am guessing that this is a wood wasp or a horntail. I would appreciate any identification help.
