Sap-feeding Beetle on Moonflower - Conotelus obscurus

Sap-feeding Beetle on Moonflower - Conotelus obscurus
St. Catharines, Niagara, Ontario, Canada
August 11, 2005
Size: 4mm (revised from 2mm)
Very small. On a flower petal. Looks to me a bit like a Rove Beetle, but not as segmented in the abdomen.

Moving to guide
Genus Conotelus

NITIDULIDAE possible
Appears to be a NITIDULIDAE.

I agree.
Does look like a nitidulid in the genus Conotelus. It should have been found inside a morning glory flower:-) Seriously. Very nice image.

ID
Found an image of Conotelus mexicanus. The image I posted matches pretty well. Now that I think about it, it was found on a Moonflower. Thank-you all for your assistance in the ID of this beetle. I'll revise its size estimate up to 4mm.

C. obscurus Erichson
The canadian checklist [see above] has only the single species listed for this genus.

C. obscurus
You are correct. Thanks.
