wrong family: this is a Geotrupes
nice series, must be IDable. i suspect G. balyi, but i know squat about them (they're way outside my size range)

they used to be all in the Scarabaeidae during my early years (mid-Tertiary, give or take)

 
Geotrupes hornii
Reading the ID tips posted by Frank Guarnieri, this specimen fits Geotrupes hornii. Punctate elytral striae, Sutural striae bend and wrap around the scutelum, antennal clubs light brown, and finally this speciman is pure black.
Again, thanks for the heads up in the right direction.
