Coolest beetle ever - Hololepta

Coolest beetle ever - Hololepta
Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa, USA
June 4, 2009
Size: 10 mm
Clown beetle, had a few mites-does anyone know if these are hitchhikers or actually parasites? All the Hololepta we found had these mites, some had so many that almost every square inch of their surface was covered.

hitchhikers, i think
must be quite annoying, though
