Colorful fly - Xylomya pallidifemur

Colorful fly - Xylomya pallidifemur
Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky, USA
June 7, 2009
Size: 1.5 cm
Not quite sure where to start looking for this one. One of perhaps five different species this day which initially (when it first landed) resembled a Ichneumon Wasp by coloration and/or behavior. This however, is truly diptera.

Reminds us of some of the Xylomya
such as , but wait for a dipterid expert. (look at the recently posted sawfly!

"recently posted sawfly"

Xylomya pallidifemur
