Eastern Boxelder Bug Eggs and Nymph - Boisea trivittata

Eastern Boxelder Bug Eggs and Nymph - Boisea trivittata
Bear, New Castle County, Delaware, USA
June 8, 2009
Found several clumps of eggs on leaves of Hosta. Also found one clump with a recently emerged nymph. Lots of Eastern Boxelder Bugs in the area.

Moved
Moved from Unidentified Eggs & Nymphs. Thanks Harsi! Thanks for reminding me. I am very confident that it is B. trivittata.

Moved from True Bugs.

Hi Ted! Moving this one to the Family page for nymphs and eggs. If you feel certain that it is indeed B. trivittata, please feel free to move it further.

Probably...
Certainly Rhopalidae. It seems like multiple species have eggs like this, and I don't think anyone has figured out how to separate the nymphs yet, but if you haven't seen any other rhopalids around then it seems reasonable to assume these are boxelder bugs.

Thanks Charley!
So far, the only Rhopalidae that I have been able to document in my garden is Boisea trivittata and there are hundreds if not thousands of them. Actually, I am beginning to think that maybe I will need some type of controls but I am not quite there yet. They can have Hostas, Yuccas and Silver Maples and I hope that they will leave my Blueberries alone.
