Psocopteran #2 in California - Philotarsus californicus
Webb Canyon , ~2000 ft. altitude, Los Angeles County, California, USA
June 9, 2009
Size: ~2 mm
Another unfortunate pool victim, this one seemed to still be clinging to life, so I didn't want to mess with it too much before fishing it out to (hopefully!) dry off and recuperate. Thus, I only have this single image of its ventral surface... I'm hoping that the clear shot of the wing venation will be enough to gain some info as to its identity. Any help is much appreciated! (Please excuse the exoskeleton-frass, as it would not detach easily from the louse's wing.)

Mixed oak & chaparral habitat.

Philotarsus californicus Mockford
Ed Mockford det.
His comment: "I just described it in 2006"

How exciting!
Thanks again, =v=, for the ID. Hopefully, I will have the opportunity to photograph the dorsal surface so that we have a complete view of this species for the guide. Please be sure to express my gratitude to Dr. Mockford for his assistance with these images!
