Golden tortoise confusion - Charidotella sexpunctata

Golden tortoise confusion - Charidotella sexpunctata
Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky, USA
June 6, 2009
Size: 1.2 cm
This transparent (disturbed?) version of the golden tortoise beetle (Charidotella sexpunctata) is already well represented in BG. However this one was easily the 1.2 cm estimated whereas the Info page, the actual golden versions seen this year and the few sizes given with the BG pictures are less than half of that. Also, the golden ones seemed inclined to hide under a leaf while this one decided to fly away. Could this be a sexual dimorphism? Separate sub-species? Or just a poor memory?

Huge!
The two adults I raised fall within the range of 5-7 mm. As for color changes I didn't notice anything dramatic. They looked very similar to this one.
