Size: over an inch
I am pretty sure that the male is the white one and the female is the yellow one , but Is this a cabbage white and a sulphur butterfly ? I know that colors can differ between the sexes , but are these the same type of butterfly ? Thanks for any comment Beth

Not a butterfly expert...
...but fairly certain that you do indeed have a pair of Cabbage White butterflies. I believe the color spectrum simply includes white and pale yellow. I don't think that variation has anything to do with the gender. (Hopefully, someone will correct me if I am wrong!) For instance, see this photo where the male is the yellower one:
